Are you heading to Glacier National Park with kids? If so, you’ll be happy to know there is lots to do with your children!
The nearest city to Glacier National Park is Kalispell, Montana, and the park borders with Canada. The park has over 1,000 different species of plants and hundreds of species of animals. There are more than 130 lakes (with names) and 16,000 square miles of pristine wilderness. It’s a sight to behold!
Here’s a list of things to do with kids in Glacier National Park:
- Camp at one of the many campgrounds in the park
- There’s a Junior Ranger Program (pick up a booklet and complete the activities during your visit)
- Go fishing! There are 130 lakes in the park!
- Walk over the Swinging Bridge — Hike the south shore of the Two Medicine Trail
- Skip rocks on the shoreline
- There are many ranger-led programs you can signup for
- View the animal skins, skulls, and complete children’s activities at Discovery Cabin in Apgar Village
- River float trips are lots of fun with kids!
- Bicycle ride on the bike path near Apgar Village to West Glacier
- Go on a hike!
- Check out the amazing view from the porch of the 1913 RangerStation in St. Mary
- Stay up really late and watch the stars
- Take a boat ride on Lake McDonald, Many Glacier, Two Medicine, or St. Mary Lake
- Go for a picnic — there are awesome picnic spots all over the park
- Take a day hike of any length
- Go horseback riding in the park
- Check out the historic lodges located throughout the park (Lake McDonald, East Glacier, or Many Glacier)
